“B”

Monday, May 3rd, 2010
When you do zazen, try “A” way.  If “A” way doesn’t work, try “B” way.  I bow to the wisdom of these words.  I am not really your teacher.  You must teach yourself.  As far as practice goes, you are not your neighbor.  What works for her might not work for you.  What works for you now may not work for you next year.  Keep it open.

engraved

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Our positive intentions need to become engraved in the fiber of our being through mindfulness of what we think, say, and do — and then by mindfully nudging ourselves towards the intentions we wish to express. None of it can be done on autopilot, all of it must come through training the mind to solidly aim for the results we hope for.

Through developing wisdom we can achieve awakening. The Buddhadharma is not about anything else; it is about accomplishing and perfecting ones own character. When one has perfected ones character, love and compassion will exist. Without them, we will suffer from resentment, unhappiness, and blame.

Firstly, however, it will help the transformation from monkey to Buddha by practicing meditation in order to quieten the chattering of the distracted and distracting monkey, so that when this monkey-infested world is encountered, it is the serenity of the Buddha Mind that experiences it, and not the agitated simian soul that sees everything as a threat.

Come

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

We may come to our meditation with the hope of reducing our stress or perfecting our technique or maybe even attaining enlightenment. But we very soon discover that the practice requires that we drop such ambition and sit still on the cushion, letting go of our internal dialogue, opening to our world—very simply, very directly.

Expect

Monday, March 1st, 2010

In meditation, don’t expect anything. Just sit back and see what happens. Treat the whole thing as an experiment. Take an active interest in the test itself, but don’t get distracted by your expectations about the results. For that matter, don’t be anxious for any result whatsoever.

objective

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

To reiterate, the chief objective of meditation is to get us over the barrier of thought by introspectively penetrating through it, reaching the spiritual substance from which it is composed.  This substance is pure Mind which is thought-less because it is the very stuff of our thoughts.
