Nothing, we work with nothing, but we work with life, and that is all.

around

Saturday, October 9th, 2010

I understand that everything I know and do is a product of imagination; and I can accept without difficulty that it is ultimately unreal; but I’m glad it exists, and will engage that existence with as much conscious awareness as I can possibly muster. This is plenty to work with, and it inspires me to make the very best of what is present for myself, those around me, and for the collective whole. The future well-being of us all, said the Buddha a long time ago, lies in the direction of less conceptual attachment to views and more mindful awareness of phenomena. Unreal Imagination Exists.

A shortcut into the path is to be inwardly empty and outwardly quiet, like water that is clear and still, myriad images reflecting in it, neither sinking nor floating, all things spontaneously so.

Sensory

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

When we hear that all sensory phenomena, including our thoughts, are empty we are to understand that only their superficial, temporal nature is empty and transitory.  But this does not mean that a substratum does not exist or is lacking.  Without such a dynamic substratum no dependent thing can arise.  In the same way, before I can make a heap of something I first need something such as sand or nuts.  There is no attribute without substance.  Nor can waves be propagated lacking a medium.

Alas!

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Alas! This body is like a machine, a nexus of bones and tendons.  It is like a magical illusion, consisting of falsifications.  It is like a dream, being an unreal vision.  It is like a reflection, being the image of former actions.  It is like an echo, being dependent on conditioning.  It is like a cloud, being characterized by turbulence and dissolution.  It is like a flash of lightning, being unstable and decaying every moment.  The body is ownerless, being the product of a variety of conditions.

Blissful

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

There is a blissful experience in the empty true nature of everything, when seen through to the essence. That is radiant Mahamudra, the ultimate reality.
